ABOUT THE ARTIST
I started painting in 1951, in a Vocational Art Class at Central High School. Fred Gill was an inspiring teacher who ignited and encouraged me. I painted watercolors until I found that I couldn't do them well enough to satisfy myself and years later, started using acrylics.
There was a long hiatus while I went to College, served in the Army and helped to raise a family. It wasn't until my work life slowed down that I had the time to get back to painting. I have been privileged to be a student at the Boca Museum Art School under the guidance of a wonderful teacher, Miles Laventhall. I owe a great deal to him.
By the way, I am very fond of a French painter, Maurice Vlaminck. I have made a number of paintings that are derived, in some ways, from works of his. What is it they say? "Imitation is the highest form of flattery."
